The Ragdoll Breed

Posted on: 14 January 2020

If you plan on getting a kitten, you'll need to start by choosing the type of kitten you want. One option will be to bring home a more common housecat which can include a calico, a tortoiseshell, a domestic shorthair, a tabby, or another type of common type. However, if you like the idea of a special breed of cat that's not as common, then you may choose a Himalayan, a Siamese, a Persian, or a ragdoll. If you are curious to know more about ragdoll cats, then continue reading as this article has a lot of information on ragdoll cats.

The look of the ragdoll

The ragdoll is a gorgeous looking cat. They are big cats when full-grown, generally weighing between 15 to 20 pounds. These cats have semi-long fur and gorgeous sky-blue eyes. Ragdolls are also considered to be a "pointed" breed of cat and this means that their body is lighter in color than their ears, face, tail, and legs. The males tend to end up being a bit larger than the females when they reach maturity.

The temperament of the ragdoll

Although some people look at ragdoll cats and expect them to be a bit snobbish due to their elegant appearance, the opposite is true. This breed is known for being extremely affectionate. Whereas some breeds of cats tend to be one-person cats, the ragdoll can share its affection with everyone in the household and love all the guests who visit the house as well. However, they can be a bit more loyal to the person who spends the most time with them and feeds them.

Another great thing about this breed of cat is that they tend to be just as playful as they are loving. They can go from lying on your lap one minute to batting toys around the house the next. This breed is also known for being easy-going with other pets in the home and this includes other cats, dogs, and other types of pets they share space with.

Ragdoll cats are considered to be both easy going and smart. You may be surprised to learn that this breed can easily be taught to walk on a leash, which is a good thing because you won't want it to be an outdoor cat because it can easily be stolen due to its fascinating appearance. They can also be taught to do simple tricks if you want to put in the time. Look for a ragdoll breeder like Soulmate Ragdolls to learn more about this type of cat.
